I confirm that Tony Simms worked for The Entertainer from 1 July 2003 - 28 February 2004 as an IT project manager (effectively a CTO) to resolve a seriously flawed implementation of a retail management system that went live on 28 May 2003. Tony was able to quickly identify the key business priorities which needed to be addressed by the vendor support team. Tony produced a project investigation report of the implementation process and this was used in discussions to secure the technical resource team we required from our vendor. He demonstrated a ‘whatever-it-takes’ approach to bring resolution to the significant technical and logistical challenges that The Entertainer faced between July and September 2003. Tony brought a clear project methodology which was business focussed and was able to gain support quickly from key players through his wit, charm and ‘bolshiness’.
Tony is an exceptional and an unusual project manager combining a penetrating business and technical analysis with insight into the individual motivations and emotions of people involved on both user and supplier sides. Tony has a high standard of fairness which wins respect from different parties and has the ability to remain objective in dealing with both user and vendor.
Tony succeeded in pulling The Entertainer through a very difficult management situation and worked long hours to ensure that technical fixes were delivered at utmost speed to resolve the log-jam in our retail management and distribution systems.
